Going with your kids can be the best way to keep them safe, but if you’ve decided to let them go on their own, then ensure that they have multiple ways to contact you, that you know where they are going, and that you have an agreed upon time when they will be home. All trick or treating in the area ends before it gets too dark to keep your kids safe. Try to err on the side of caution and get those kids home before dark anyway.

If possible, encourage the use of bright costumes. They may not seem as fun to some kids who go for the more ghoulish designs, but the brighter the costume, the easier they are to see for motorists who may occupy the roads during the trick or treating time. Ensure that you go over pedestrian safety before they head out too.
